Police in your area
How are they with you as a individual or a club?

Do you work with the police to organise meets and events?

Do you feel you are victimised for having a modified car?

In Shropshire in some areas police have clamped down and most of the car parks where we would normally go have been closed off by barriers but in other areas, as long as they dont get complaints we are allowed to be there...

i would like to see a mutual ground where we could go somewhere on a regular basis but as always the minority are about that spoil it for the rest and this is what it has come to.

Whats it like where you are?

Wednesday nights (club meet night) they are ok, never have any trouble, however Sundays, different story, too many people and bang, gets shut down. Tickets issued left right and centre.

Do you work with the police to organise meets and events?
We tried, we failed, they don't want to know, they just want us to get normal cars and "behave" and not meet up in numbers of more than 4 cars.

Do you feel you are victimised for having a modified car?
Of course, because the car is different it's a magnet for being targetted, overtook a police car bang on 70mph the other day only to get pulled over for "excessive acceleration", supposidly I was intimidating them, they pulled me over because I had (in their words) shiney wheels

We have an evil policeman who is rude and treats us like children, we also have a couple who are rather nice abouts things and have a laugh with us whilst doing their job! Police who are friendly to us as younger ones works better cuase we are more liekly to listen...

Do you work with the police to organise meets and events?

Not as yet..

Do you feel you are victimised for having a modified car?

By a certain policeman yes indeed!

Whats it like where you are?

We are all seen as 'racers' and 'anti social' but police don't see it properly and just label us

They used to be ok to be honest then in the past year something has changed, see below...

Do you work with the police to organise meets and events?

For years we held illegal events which started out as local meets, they grew to an amazing level and we soon filled our location. Eventually we liased with the council and police and was given permission to use the local football club car park. That went well for ages until one day they came back and asked for £3.00 per car to cover them putting a security guard on.

We used to charge £1.00 for each car and donate the monies to charity so getting £3.00 per car just for entry was not gonna happen.

Do you feel you are victimised for having a modified car?

Definately, you stand out to them and are an easier target. I did get told that some police officers LOVE "boy racers" or "car enthusiasts" and purposely stop them for a laugh...

RE: Police in your area
we are quick lucky where we are, we have a large leisure park that we go into most nights and as long as we dont mess about they tend to leave us alone but they do drive though most evenings to see wat we are up to. The park is also covered by CCTV and they tend to alert the police if there are any people messing about.

We only have police man here that has a power trip but he is getting better.

With regard to teh events as long as nothing silly goes on and its for a good cause they tend to just watch and let us get on with it, some of them join in by looking at the cars and chatting to us about them

As my site is less than 12 months old the police havent got to know the site or the stickers yet to be on my personal case for the way my members act. However most people are well behaved and respect the site.

Do you work with the police to organise meets and events?

All our meets are illegal as such. but as said about nobody act's like a tool so the police are ok with us, the keep an eye on us but don't bother us unless we give them reason too. Which recently happened and a member got a section 59, for something that wasn't even him.

Do you feel you are victimised for having a modified car?

i'm not because of the type of car i drive, yes it's modified but i dont get the evil eye of the police because it's a volvo.

RE: Police in your area
I live in the same area as dave, so i wont do a full entry..

I will say that usually the police will be pretty sound with you if you come across to know what your talking about, and reason with them in a calm, professional manner.

If there are a large number of you, then the trick is to suggest to them that if they make you all leave an area they could be making more unnecessary work for themselves and causing tailbacks and worsened traffic conditions for the public. Its not a threat or in anyway unreasonable its just a simple reality check that sometimes makes them realise that by you being in one place (and behaving) then its actually in their best interest as then they know where you are going to be if they wish to check up on you...

That is unless you have had complaints by the car park owner that you are there.. Then your screwed

As an individual I get a lot more respect and co-operation from the police than I do when I am out with the group. To be honest with you derbyshire police as a rule aren't too bad and as long as everyone is alright with them then they are generaly okay with you.

Do you work with the police to organise meets and events?
Not at this stage no. I would like to try and get somthing organised in the future but I feel that at the present stage they still see us as a bunch of chav's, not serious car enthusiasts. I have ran other events with the authorities in the past but it's always been on more of a driver education level as oposed to what we do day in day out

Do you feel you are victimised for having a modified car?
Without a doubt yes. Although I wouldn't blame the police entirely. To me the main problem we have is the anti-social bad boys image that has been portrayed by the media for years. Courtesy of their propeganda they have led the general public into a corner where in many cases they actualy feel intimidated by us, because they have seen on tv or in the paper that we are nothing but a bunch of yobs. I openly admit, every area does have it's idiots but they need to realise that for every one idiot there are fifty genuine car enthusiasts out there
